Our Hearts Are Heavy

First, a big orange tulip in honor of our big orange cat.

I had to go back and change the birth year
for both Stinkus and The Runt.
We realized while looking through pictures
yesterday afternoon

that they were born in 2001, not 2000.

These photos were planned for yesterday.
I'll put them up today for Stinkus,
who has left a huge hole in our lives.

Our animals bring us so much joy and unconditional love.
Even with the pain in my heart right now,
I wouldn't trade one minute with Stinkus.
Not one minute of him laying all over my paper
while I tried to read it in the mornings,
or of him waiting not-so-patiently for me
to finish my cereal so he could have
the leftover milk from the bottom of the bowl.

And he was Scott's shop cat.
His company during the day.

He will be missed.

First Photo Walk

I went on my first photo walk with the local photo club.

This is the scene from near the point
on Tubbs Hill on Lake Coeur d'Alene.
We had a very nice day - windy and cold
but the photo conditions were ideal.

Look at the heart-shaped leaves on these flowers.

These are striped like candy canes.

The bokeh on this shot is wonderful.
Except that there's something on my lens.
You can see it in the upper left part of each and every bokeh.

These have to belong to the same family as snapdragons.

Aren't they beautiful?
I couldn't believe all the different wildflowers that were blooming.

Great day, great company, great photos.

Daffodils and Tulips

Aren't they gorgeous? You can even see the pollen.

The pink tulips are just about done.
They're in the backyard (south facing).
This is the only bunch with some that haven't bloomed.

The red tulips out front haven't even opened yet.

Vandalism

Friday night, someone thought it would be funny

to tip over some statues.

We're not laughing.

This gargoyle is toast.

It has rebar in the wing, but the way it fell bent the rebar

and bending it back straight is nearly impossible.

I guess we should be grateful it fell the way it did.

At least it spared the lion standing next to it.

I’ve found something else that isn’t conveyed very well in a photo. This was taken while the sun was shining during a brief downpour. You can hardly tell it’s raining from the photo.

We have had some strange weather the last couple of days. First it will snow like crazy for a few minutes, then sun. Then a torrential downpour will start and a few minutes later, the sun is shining. Then we’ll get hail for a brief time, then sun again. It literally can’t make up its mind. Yup – it’s spring in North Idaho.
