Ironman Coeur d'Alene 2011
We went down to City Beach this morning to watch the start of Ironman CDA 2011. It was an amazing sight: a tsunami of pink and green caps going in the water. Very inspiring.
The "elite" athletes were already in the water, on their second lap.
After the swim, we watched the first of the "age-groupers" head out on their bikes. I still had my zoom lens on and had a really hard time getting a decent photo. In fact, this was the only decent one - #830.
I hope he did well - he looked like a serious athlete.

My Nemesis
While I was looking through a box of fitness stuff earlier this week for bike gloves, I ran across this. It's a training guide that shows anatomical drawings of each part of the body, and exercises and stretches that apply to that body part. Everything is neatly color-coordinated, and it even includes 3 complete pre-set workouts. For most of the exercises, you don't need equipment ~ it's all done with body-weight resistance.
We have decided to train for a half-marathon in September and knew we needed to add strength training to our workout routine, so I pulled this out of the box and brought it in the house.
This morning, we had massive thunder and lightning. I've run through snow and rain, I've run when it was icy and windy. I draw the line at lightning. So after running a quick half mile to warm up, Scott led us through one of the pre-set workouts.
I hate the training fan. It is not my friend. In fact, it may be the death of me.

Scott's New Toy
That's right. Scott's.
If you remember, the last waterproof point-and-shoot - MY waterproof p & s - was lost at Hayden Days last year, after taking some fabulous shots of our granddaughter riding a camel. So this one is Scott's. I'm sure I can borrow it if I ask. Not sure I want to. I am sure I can't afford to replace it. :-)

Wild, Blooming

Fly Shadow
I spent yesterday (a glorious sunny Saturday) working in the yard. I saw the coolest bee on my batchelor buttons. By the time I got back with my camera, it was gone. Oh well, I put the camera just inside the back door and went back to work. A while later, I saw the biggest bumblebee, again on the batchelor buttons. And, again, when I grabbed the camera, he disappeared. There were plenty of flies around (they help polination, too, you know...) so I grabbed some photos. I think this guy was taking a drink.
