Hayden City Christmas Tree

They're Back!

Eagle 12-23-12

A Pair 12-23-12

What They Come For - Kokanee Salmon
Hayden Lake Dock 12-23-12
I'm feeling much more optimistic this week.  Not surprising that the photos are a little better.  :-)

The first (and best) is a shot of the Hayden City Christmas Tree after our first big storm of the season.  Everything looked so pretty covered in snow, but the tree was perfect.  I'm so glad I thought to grab the camera that morning.  The next four shots are from Lake Coeur d'Alene this afternoon.  The light was very bad and the eagles weren't moving around much, but it does my heart good just to see them.  The last one is yet another gorgeous shot of Hayden Lake.  It's the reason I wasn't taking photos of the eagles as the sun was rising - I went for a run to the lake. I hope you enjoy these.  It's the penultimate post of my project 48...

Project 48 ~ 46:48

Low Clouds (Hayden Lake)

It's a gloomy picture and it matches my mood.  It was taken with my not-smart phone during a run to the lake today.  There is much going on in my life right now, unfortunately, none of it good.  I have not had time to take any photos this week, even though I would have loved to shoot the eagles at the lake.  Hopefully, next week will be quieter, although I am not hopeful at this point.  It's been (and is  going to be) one of those weeks where you just keep putting one foot in front of the other. And this, too, shall pass.

Project 48 ~ 45:48

1. My Cupcake

2. Kaydee & Me

3. Painted Tiles

4. Frozen Lion
This week saw my first granddaughter turn 4! It's so hard for me to believe it's been four years already since I first laid eyes on her beautiful face.  Her mom planned and executed a wonderful party:  we decorated cupcakes (then ate them!), opened presents, and then painted tiles.  Some tiles went home with the kids and some Nicole kept to be placed in her kitchen backsplash.  The last photo is one of the animals in the vast empire.  We got a skiff of snow yesterday, then very cold temps.  Looks like we might get our white Christmas...

Project 48 ~ 44:48

1. December Sun

2. Nicole, Neela & Grandpa Scott

3. Hayden Express

4. Hayden Christmas Tree 2012
Aren't the chrysanthemums beautiful?  I rescued them from the trash at work and they have brought some much needed "sun" into my house this week.  The last three are from the Hayden Lights 2012 Parade.  The weather was cold but dry and the baby really enjoyed all the floats & candy.  She especially liked the bubbles coming out of the Hayden Express.

We had a great time, which was really nice, considering Scott, Dan & I came down with food poisoning later that night! I have never been so sick ~ in fact, I am just starting to feel better.  Hopefully, nothing else will sideline me and the rest of the posts this year will be on time.  Well, we can hope!  Enjoy!

Project 48 ~ 43:48

1. Red Canyon, Utah

2. Hoodoos, Bryce Canyon, Utah

3. Windswept Tree, Bryce Canyon, Utah
4. Through the Roots, Bryce Canyon, Utah
5. Backlit Hoodoos, Bryce Canyon, Utah

6. Tiny Desert Blooms, Mesquite, Nevada

7. Butterfly on Grass, Mesquite, Nevada
We spent the last half of the Thanksgiving week in the desert.  It was beautiful.  The weather was awesome ~ the temperatures were great without being too hot and we spent lots of time lounging by the pool.  We also made a side-trip to Bryce Canyon, where I finally got to see the Hoodoos!  They are beautiful and I would love to go back when we have more time to spend. Enjoy!

Project 48 ~ 42:48

1. Loki
2. Snow on Sideshow
3. Jace & Dan
4. McKinney Thanksgiving 2012
Who could have predicted this would be such a wonderful Thanksgiving?  We even had it early - the Sunday before the actual holiday.

The first shot is Loki, Dan's cat.  She was not happy to pose for me.  The second is from our yard a couple of days before we left for Salt Lake.  And the last two are family - Dan (my son) with Jace (his son) and a shot of the whole crew.  Big hugs to my family in Salt Lake for making the day so special.  I love you all.

Project 48 ~ 41:48

1. Through The Snow

2. Covered in Snow

3. Last Leaves

4. Blue Glass

5. First Race
Are you sensing a theme? Yup, snow.  The first snow of the season came a bit early this year.  I still have not finished cutting back my yard, so several of the flowers were covered in it.  It was a very dry, very cold snow and the temperatures were frigid for the 2nd Annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes 5K - a benefit for the St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Veterans Program.  We talked Nicole and Mike into running with us.  We ran 3.1 miles, then ate pancakes at O'Shay's Irish Pub.  It was a good time (even if the "feels like" temp was 14 when we started) and a great cause.  Happy Veterans Day and a huge Thank You! to all the troops!

Project 48 ~ 40:48

1. Stormy Sunset

2. Red/Pink/Green

3. Park-like Yard

4. Water Catcher
This week was a little more successful.  It really helped to carry my camera around with me.  I also tried to be more aware of things I saw when I was out and about - the photo of the park-like yard was seen on our run on Saturday.  I went back when we were done & took a picture.  The sunset photo may be the last of those for a while.  Since the time changed, the sun is setting around 4:30 p.m. here.  And it's probably the last of the outdoor flower/plant photos as well.  Snow is in the forecast for this week, as well as bone-numbing cold.  I suspect I will have to be much more creative next week.  Enjoy!

Project 48 ~ 39:48

You know that saying that the best camera is the one you have with you?  That's the theme for this week's photo.

Yes, that's photo: as in singular.  I am still amazed that I took exactly one photo this week, and that one photo was taken with my not-smart phone.  We were window shopping at Wiggett's Antiques in the Silver Lake Mall and I happened to see a framed Droguett illustration of a kitten on a mirror.  I had this exact picture on the wall in my bedroom when I was growing up.  It was handed down to my son, who had it on the wall of his bedroom until he moved out.  I have no idea where it ended up, but suddenly here is an exact duplicate, down to the frame, 700 miles from the last place I saw it.  I snapped a quick picture with my phone and sent it to my son with the caption "Remember this??!?!"

If not for that, you would be looking at a black screen.    I can't believe how close I came to screwing up my Project 48.  The weather here was grey and dreary all week. The sun is now setting just after 5pm.  All of this makes it difficult to take a photo.  I make it more difficult by not carrying my camera with me.  None of it makes it impossible.

Tomorrow, I will begin carrying my camera with me to work again each day.  I promise I will have more than one photo to choose from next week.

Cosmos on Gold

Self-Portrait, October 2012
Not a lot of photography went on this week - I was busy with other work.  One keeper (I love the magenta cosmos against the yellow leaves) and a new profile picture.  I thought it was about time I updated my photo with something more current.  Ten weeks to go in this current project.  Let's hope for better clicks next week.

Project 48 ~ 37:48

1. Indoor Hitchhiker

2. Fall Sunflower

3. Mum Leaves

4. Autumn Warmth

5. The Vast Empire - Gargoyle in Red
Scott brought the ladybug indoors so I could get a photo.  I got one and then she flew away.  I'm pretty sure she's somewhere in the house, I just have no idea where.  The second photo is one final shot of the perennial sunflowers.  I think they're just about done for the year.  The last three are the first of the fall colors.  It looks to be a stellar color season.

Not much photography went on this week as we were in our final training for the Canfield Mountain Race - Scott ran the 9er and I ran the 5K.  It was our first trail race and we both had a blast.  We will definitely be back for the next Iron-Core race.

Hope you enjoy the photos.
