Candidate Forum

We went to a candidate forum tonight at City Hall for City Council and Fire District candidates.
NOT a great photo opportunity, but important and informative nonetheless.
Don't forget to vote next Tuesday. It really is important.

Rainy Monday

Remember how much fun it was to splash through puddles??

Grinch

This guy reminds of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
When I got this camera, back in January, I was completely intimidated by it. I read just enough of the manual to get started, and then put it away. Last night, because of comments made about my photographs in the photo workshop I took, I dug it out to look at what kinds of flash options were available. In researching that, I found a much easier way of adjusting my settings when I'm shooting in one of the manual modes. Much, much easier. I've learned a little about flash settings and will be doing some experimenting with that in the coming days. I've also started to be more exact about my focus, which has meant doing it manually for the most part.
Can't wait to see what changes this brings. [grin]

Sideshow Bob

The early frost was hard on Sideshow Bob,
not to mention all of the younger trees around the place.

Last night was the last photo workshop. I learned that while my composition is good, my technical skills need some work. Especially my focus and my (non-existant) use of flash.

Tonight I'm going to spend some time working on both.

Leaf

The struggle for me this time of year is remembering to take a photo while it's light outside. The sun is rising around 7:15 a.m. and setting at 5:45 p.m. which really limits my choices.

Out of Focus

The only shot of the day on 10/20/09 and it stinks.

More Fall Color

There aren't as many vibrant yellows as there normally are.
This tree was gorgeous.

Love the moss on the tree limbs, and the white bark.

These leaves are just starting to turn.
And what cool shapes!

A shot of red (leaves), white (bark), and blue (sky).

Round Bales

I really like the colors in this one: the cool sky and the warm hay.

They almost look like giant toys.

Last

Last flower of summer...

and last bee.

Frost Damage

As promised, here is the result of the hard frost on the flowers.
This is the sunflower. The very same one featured here a few short days ago.

The bee balm is toast. TOAST.

The golden daisies are very sad.

And this? This was the sky tonight. Too pretty to pass up.
Even with the power lines.

Twice Told Tales

Tonight was the first night of a two-part
photography workshop I signed up for.
I didn't worry about taking a photo today - figured that would be covered.
It was not. We never even took our cameras out.
So you get a lame shot of the gift shop sign
from the library where the workshop was held.
Sorry. It was late.

Post Office

Here's a place I go every day, and until today,
it never occurred to me it might be a photo opportunity.

There are actually some cool lines.

I ran some photoshop actions on these photos.

I'm not sure I like it.

Watching

We're being watched.
[grin]
Look how bare the front of my house looks. Several nights of hard freezes have decimated my plants, so I pulled out and cut back everything in the front.
I'll show you some photos later of the damage to the back yard.

Frozen Fountain

This is what our fountain looked like after two nights of lows in the teens.
Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Firey Crash

Ok, technically, these are not Saturday's photos.
They are from late Friday night.
After we had gone to bed, we were awakened by a very loud noise. Two cars had collided when one ran a stop sign. The car at fault is the one on fire. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt and everyone was out of the truck before it caught on fire.

My view

at work.
Posting might be sporadic for the next few days.
Our Internet provider (Verizon) is having "issues."

Prayer Cards

We went to a Rosary tonight for Scott's friend's brother,
who passed away unexpectedly this weekend.
These are prayer cards. The first is St. Joseph,
and this one is the Blessed Virgin.
The service was really nice. Very sad, but nice.

The daisies have already been cut back for the winter.
Someone tell the daisy. Please.

Perennial Sunflower

This may be all the sunflowers I get to enjoy.
We've got a hard freeze coming.

Handheld. Not my best work.

Vino!

We went to the Italian Festival today and watched the Grape Stomp.
